Country and Western

The committee have decided to change this years country and western meet to a THS which will still take place in the week before and ove the August bank holiday week-end. We have not taken this decision lightly, but we felt that we could not compete with the NFOL being held so close to our meet with several regular campers already confirming that they will not be attending this years meet. The New THS is at Burgh Le Marsh near Skegness, which would be a great place to spend a week with the family. A short drive from Ingoldmels with the famous market, Butlins and the usual seaside attractions, and of course Skegness.

Lindum DAs Annual 2010 Country and Western meet took place over the bank holiday week-end, and was a great event, even if I do say so myself. On that note I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who helped out at the meet and supported us by attending.

This year saw us being entertain in various different ways during the day, with coffee morning, line dancing, Gale and Sandras unique bingo(trust me if you were there you will know what I mean - Yeeehaw!!!) and of course the Misouri Raiders.

Each evening of the meet saw DJ Spud starting the night off and filling in between the acts with the Lindum Disco. Friday night saw Bob Oakley venture into the marquee, followed by American Spirit on Saturday night and finally last but by no means least Darren Busby to close the entertainment on the Sunday evening.

This year saw more line dancing in the marquee with Michelle. The classes went really well and everyone could have a go at something, and those taking part were able to show off their new skills in the evening in the marquee. A special thanks to Michelles helpers Gordon and Sue Barlow who learnt the partner dances via email to help out, and of course a big thanks to Michelle!!!

Coffee mornings saw a range of different activities including the tombola along with the normal coffee, tea and orange. The raffle was also drawn on the monday morning, along with the winners of the quiz and other competitions that had taken place over the weekend.

There were games, quizzes, trade stalls, tombola, ‘quick draw' and horseshoe throwing competitions and we hope The Missouri Raiders will be there to entertain us again next year, with their ‘Wild West' re-enactments and ‘shoot outs'.

The ‘Raiders' as they are known locally are a group of ‘ Country and Western' enthusiasts who performances raise money for various local charities, throughout the year. If you have not seen them in action yet, why not take this opportunity to do so. Their encampment gives a small insight into how they used to live in the big open Wild West with all the cowboys.

To keep in line with the Country and Western theme there will be prizes for the ‘Best dressed' cowboy / cowgirl / Red Indian. So if you fancy being ‘John Wayne' or ‘Sitting Bull' for the weekend come along and have some fun.

This was a bit of a strange year for me, as I went to the meet expecting to help out here and there with drinks for the working party and looking after the kids while Spud sorted out the disco, but things didn't really go to plan. On the Sunday we arrived for the working party and started to sort things out, then Monday morning instead of Pete and Janice arriving as planned I got a phone call from Janice our treasurer to say that Pete had been taken into hospital. Well I guess that changed my plans a little, and as Vice I was now in charge. Most of the meet seemed to go without too many problems, and I even managed to do the coffee morning and draw the raffle on stage. Most of all though a big thanks to Spud and also to my parents who came across, cutting their holiday short to give us a hand.

I am sure you will all be pleased to know that Pete is up and about again and is planning to steward Halloween as usual.

A big thanks to everyone involved with the country and western meet in any way. There are far too many to mention and there are a huge list of jobs that go on in the background, ranging from the working party marking out the site and managing the traffic, to the burger van, and the tea tart and coffee queen in the marquee at coffee morning and the ladies running the tombola. I know I haven't mentioned everyone but it gives you a bit of an idea as to what goes on with the meet.
